Happy Birthday to Google but what about Google+?

Google, the world’s biggest search engine is celebrating its 13th birthday today.  Having said that the exact date of the inception of the company is often disputed as the California based company had filed for incorporation on 4 September, 1998. It was established three days later on September 7. However, over the years, Google has celebrated 27 September as its birthday. What is not in dispute is the phenomenal growth of this company.

Of course Google was a classic bedroom start up by two Stanford University Phd students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, operates over one million servers in data centers around the world and processes over one billion search requests every day. It will be interesting to see how they get on with Google+.  Getting users to migrate from Facebook, where their contacts are well dug in, will be a massive task and not one I would bet on.

Google+ makes connecting on the web more like connecting in the real world. Share your thoughts, links and photos with the right circles. Use easy, spontaneous video chat to strike up conversations with as many as nine people at once. Get everyone on the same page with fast, simple group chat. We’re very excited about the new approach to sharing we’ve created through Google+, but this is really just the beginning.
